Surgery process

A hip replacement surgery can either be carried out under a general anaesthetic (the patient is asleep during the procedure) or an epidural (the lower body is numbed). Typically, the surgeon begins with making an incision into the hip. Next, he removes the damaged hip joint and replaces it with an artificial one. The replaced joint could be a metal alloy or, in some cases, ceramic as well. The duration of the surgery is usually around 60-90 minutes.
